Cleveland Indians and The Cleveland Zoo

Brandon won tickets at work to an event that combines two things I  love, the zoo and baseball.  This year’s Cleveland Indians season ticket holder player meet and greet was held at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.  We attended a meet and greet at the stadium about 5 years ago and we had a great time so we were really looking forward to going to this event.

We haven’t been to the zoo yet this season.  They have just opened the Elephant Crossing exhibit in May and we are attending a separate function for zoo members, Elephant Tuesday, next week where we get an up close and personal walk through of that exhibit.  I am very excited about that so I will just show a quick pic of the area and the elephants.  I really missed the elephants while they were away!  I am so happy they are back.IMG_9554 - Copy

The new exhibit gives the elephants lots more room and is a really nice upgrade to the old exhibit.

We went into the greenhouse to see the butterflies.  There were only a couple other people in there with us so I finally got a few really good pictures of some of the butterflies….IMG_9571 - Copy

The Atlas Butterfly was really spectacular at about 10 – 12 inches wide….hard to tell the size in the photo..

I wish I could now show you the pictures I took of the Indians players as they gave us their autographs but no photos were allowed.  Bummer.  We had a really good time anyway.  Brandon and Dane were both sick so we left the event a little early.  This is Dane’s last week of school so I am sure we will be going to the zoo a few more times this summer.

A Trip to the Flea Market

Brandon had a vacation day today so we took off to the  Hartville Flea Market.  The weather was supposed to clear up  but it sprinkled the whole time we were there.  There weren’t too many vendors there and the ones that were there were very busy covering and uncovering their items.  We did manage to score a couple good buy there.

First, I bought this Star Wars Naboo StarFighter for Dane…..IMG_9537

It is die cast and I can’t go wrong picking up anything Star Wars for him.  When we got home I noticed it was missing the tip off the left side engine.  I didn’t notice that when I bought it so I must have lost it while walking around the flea market.  I will have to find a fix for it.

The next find was this Vintage Candy Jar.IMG_9531

It looks pretty good next to my red clock on the counter!   I will have to find some yummy candy to fill it with.

Then for the ultimate deal of the day….free keys and a free lock……can’t beat free!IMG_9536

I’m not sure what I will do with the keys but Brandon already found a use for the lock, that is why it’s not in the picture.

When we left there and it was just before noon and a little bit too early for lunch.  We decided to go to the Antiques Mall on the way home.  We looked around for a while and Brandon found this gumball machine.IMG_9545

We already had two or three different kinds of gumball machines around our house but the price on this one we couldn’t pass it up.  Now I will have to clean it up, fill it up and find it a home!

It was a really nice day of bargain hunting.  I am looking forward to going back to Hartville when the weather cooperates and there are more venders. We always seem to find interesting things there even when there are not too many vendors.

I am just happy that it is unofficially the beginning of summer!  Have a great holiday weekend!

I Have a Blog? Oh Yeah…..

No excuses about huge the lapse in posting here.  I am just going to move forward and today seems like a good day to do it.   I am not going to go and ramble on about what we have done since January I am just going to start with some of what has gone on this past weekend with the wildlife around our home.

We have had quite a few bright orioles show up at our humming bird feeder this spring.  They normally come for just a couple days and then leave not to be seen until the following year.

When I took this picture there were three orioles fighting to eat.  They just didn’t want to get their picture taken together.  They also fight with our hummingbirds for the nectar so the feeder has been extremely active.

Saturday we were outside and the neighbor came and got us to show us the visitor in his front yard.  He had just mowed the grass and luckily didn’t hit this snapping turtle!

This turtle was a good size.  He was 16 to 18 inches round and when he decided to start walking we were all surprised about how long his legs were!

We are not too sure where he came from.  We don’t have any lakes or ponds close to us.  We do have our little garden pond with our decorative fish in and I hope he doesn’t decide to make that his new home!  We’d lose our fish and frogs for sure.

That was some of last weekend’s big events around here.  I will be back in a more timely manner.
